Faith Based Initiatives to Help Reduce Poverty
Mission work has always been something that certain religions have participated in and made them a top priority. Recently mission work has been an even bigger thing in religion. I, myself have gone on four mission trips or Ghana, Africa with the goal of helping the Ghanians stimulate their own economy. I go with Kingdom Cares International
A new venture my mom has started is called “10 Women in Ghana.” She has found 10 American supporters to match with 10 Ghanaian women. She will go to Ghana, teach the women a craft (embroidery) and, through micro-finance from the American sponsors, give the women the materials to start their business. After making 12 embroidered projects, the women will send their work back to America to be sold at fair prices by their sponsors. The first money earned will pay the sponsor back, the remainder will be 100% profit for the Ghanaian woman. The expected profit from 12 small projects can feed her family for 6 months. Each batch of 12 projects she does becomes more profitable as her start-up costs aren’t repeated.
