#6 Russia's poverty

Russia's poverty

In Russia you are considered below the poverty line if you make $200 or less per month per person living in your home. To put that into persepctive: If you live in America and you make $930 or less per month then you are considered under the poverty line.

Living in russia isn't cheap, certianly not five times less than the cost of living in America. Living being expensive overall in Russia increases the number of people under the poverty line.

"Russia is a poor country, and getting poorer. No amount of Kremlin sleight of hand can change that. And the day of reckoning is coming fast and soon."

#10 how poverty affects the economy as a whole

How Poverty Affects the Economy as a Whole

Overall poverty affects the economy in a negative way. The more poor people there are in a country then the weaker the economy will be in that area of the world. Reducing poverty is the only way that it  can help the economy. Things that should be done to reduce poverty is listed in a previous blog.

Being poor comes along with not being able to have the resources to live successfully. Think about it: Most people in Africa don't have access to running water or anyother neccissities to living. If they don't have the basic needs of living covered then how could do anything but make the economy of the continent weaker? Answer: they can't because they dont have the resources. Third world countries  have weak economies because their people are farther under the poverty line than countries who have lower rates if poverty.

#8 things done to lessen poverty

Things Done to Reduce Poverty

International Aid:

The US spent $37,680,000,000 on international aid in 2012 alone.

Promoting schools:

The more educated a community is then the more likely they are to be above the poverty line. Promoting schools helps reduce poverty.

Promote Marriage:

Children who grow up in a house with a mother and father are less likely to fall under the poverty line when becoming independent even if their parents were in poverty. There is something about parents sticking together that inspires children to have a more successful life on average.

#9 faith based initiatives to help reduce poverty

Faith Based Initiatives to Help Reduce Poverty

Mission work has always been something that certain religions have participated in and made them a top priority. Recently mission work has been an even bigger thing in religion. I, myself have gone on four mission trips or Ghana, Africa with the goal of helping the Ghanians stimulate their own economy. I go with Kingdom Cares International

A new venture my mom has started is called “10 Women in Ghana.”  She has found 10 American supporters to match with 10 Ghanaian women.  She will go to Ghana, teach the women a craft (embroidery) and, through micro-finance from the American sponsors, give the women the materials to start their business.  After making 12 embroidered projects, the women will send their work back to America to be sold at fair prices by their sponsors.  The first money earned will pay the sponsor back, the remainder will be 100% profit for the Ghanaian woman.  The expected profit from 12 small projects can feed her family for 6 months.  Each batch of 12 projects she does becomes more profitable as her start-up costs aren’t repeated.

#7 children in poverty

Children in Poverty

Children who live in poor families growing up are more likely to be in poverty as an adult verses someone who grew up above the poverty line.

"More than 16.1 million children in America are poor, but they live in working families. A disproportionate number are Black and Latino. Poor children lag behind their peers in many ways beyond income: They are less healthy, trail in emotional and intellectual development, and are less likely to graduate from high school. Poor children also are likely to become the poor parents of the future. Every year that we keep children in poverty costs our nation half a trillion dollars in lost productivity, poorer health and increased crime."

#5 Africa's poverty

Africa's Poverty

Unlike America, Africa's poverty level is on a decrease. As a whole, they have made it their top priority to reduce poverty. In 1990 47% of people were under the poverty line. In 2008 only 40% of people were considered under the poverty line. If this number keeps decreasing like it did from 1990-2010 then pretty soon Africa may not be considered a third world country again.

Africa's poverty rates have decreased because of economic growth.

"The African content sustained high level of economic growth averaging slightly more than 5% of annual GDP growth over the period 2001-2010. Moreover, through this period, Africa's average population growth rate of about 2.5% was significantly below the average economic growth rate. Hence, the sustained economic growth recorded by most African countries over the past decade has played a role in poverty reduction"

#4 America's poverty

America's Poverty

America is a powerhouse in the world economy but if poverty goes up anymore then China will surpass us.
Even though the economy has been getting better, the US poverty numbers as a whole haven't gone up or down drastically.  15% of people in America have been in poverty. This number has been consistant on average since 2010.

America is a powerhouse in the world economy but if poverty goes up anymore then China will surpass us.
